Log in to GALILEO and then scroll down and choose the Literature and Literary Criticism link.   A listing of databases should load, and you will want to select the Literary Reference Center database.  Search for Poe, Edgar All (all fields).

When the search results screen loads, click on the Biography tab at the top of the screen and then click on any of the article links. Several of these articles discuss Poe's alcoholism and drug use.

Rufus Griswold wrote the most scathing accounts of Poe's alcoholism.  The Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore web page lists some of these articles: http://www.eapoe.org/geninfo/poegrisw.htm  However, many scholars feel that Griswold's perspective was clouded as a result of personal and professional feuds with Poe.

You may also want to read  Edgar Allan Poe: A Critical Biography by Arthur Hobson Quinn.  We have a copy in the Roberts Library.  Call number  PS2631 .Q5 1941a.  If you cannot come to the Dalton campus, check at the Pickens or Gilmer County Public libraries.  You may borrow items from either library using your DSOnecard.
